[AGC Media Statement] Prosecution files Notice of Appeal in Yang Yin's Case

Mr Yang Yin, a former tour-guide, pleaded guilty on 16 August 2016 to two charges of Criminal Breach of Trust under section 406 of the Penal Code for dishonestly misappropriating a total of S$1.1 million from an elderly Singaporean widow. On 30 September 2016, the District Court sentenced the accused to a total of 6 years’ imprisonment in respect of these two charges. 2 Having carefully reviewed the Principal District Judge’s written grounds of decision, the Public Prosecutor is of the view that the 6-year imprisonment sentence imposed for the Criminal Breach of Trust offences is manifestly inadequate.
