The office of the Attorney-General ("AG") in Singapore can be traced back to 1867. For more information about our history, including details about the current Attorney-General, as well as previous Attorneys-General, click here.
Today, the AG’s Chambers ("AGC") is staffed by approximately 150 legally trained officers and about an equal number of management support and executive officers.
The AG discharges his responsibilities and duties through 5 legal divisions (Civil, Criminal Justice, International Affairs, Legislation and Law Reform and Revision), with the support of the Corporate Services Division, the Computer Information Systems Department and the Library and Resource Centre.

The AG is the legal adviser to the Government. He is also the Public Prosecutor.
Two sets of services may be of especial interest and relevance to members of the public.
First, AGC provides, in a collaborative project involving the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Finance, the Singapore Statutes.Online service. This is an online database which provides access to Acts passed by the Singapore legislature. Read more about Statutes.Online here.
Secondly, AGC has a Legal Profession (International Services) Secretariat (“LPS”) which is responsible for registering and regulating foreign law firms and foreign lawyers wishing to practise foreign law in Singapore. The LPS also regulates the practise of Singapore law in the banking, finance and corporate work of joint law ventures. To read more about the work of the LPS, click here.
AGC is also involved in the publication of various types of documents which may be of interest to members of the public. This includes Revised Editions of the Laws of Singapore, Law Reform Reports and Consultation Papers issued to garner feedback from members of the public.
