Professor Walter Woon Cheong Ming, Attorney-General (11 Apr 2008 to present)
Professor Walter Woon

Professor Walter Woon Cheong Ming graduated in 1981 with a LLB (First Class Honours) from the National University of Singapore (“NUS”). He then joined the teaching staff of the Faculty of Law in NUS. He was awarded a scholarship and attended St John’s College, Cambridge in 1982 to 1983 and graduated with a LLM (First Class Honours) degree. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 1985.

Professor Woon subsequently became the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law in NUS, and was made a Professor of Law on 1 Feb 1999. He also taught at the Singapore Society of Accountants for eight years till 1991. A prolific writer, he has authored several books on company law, commercial law and the Singapore legal system, as well as two novels.

Professor Woon served as a Nominated Member of Parliament from 1992 to 1996 and was instrumental in introducing the Maintenance of Parents Bill in Parliament. This remains to date the only Act passed by Parliament since 1965 that was not initiated by the Government.
Professor Woon served as the Legal Adviser to the President and Council of Presidential Advisors from 1995 to 1997. He was seconded to the Foreign Service in Sep 1997 and has served as Singapore's Ambassador to Belgium and to Germany.

On 3 Oct 2006, Professor Woon was appointed Second Solicitor-General and was re-designated as the Solicitor-General on 2 July 2007.

On 11 Apr 2008, Professor Woon was appointed Attorney-General of Singapore.


Mrs Koh Juat Jong, Solicitor-General (11 Apr 2008 to present)

Mrs Koh Juat JongMrs Koh Juat Jong graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Statistics from University College, London, UK in 1981.  She then joined the Administrative Service and served in the Ministry of Finance from 1981 to 1986 dealing with tax policies and personnel policies.

Mrs Koh went on to obtain her Bachelor of Law degree from the National University of Singapore in 1988 and her Masters of Law degree from Harvard University in 1989.  She switched to the Legal Service and joined the Attorney-General’s Chambers in 1989 as a State Counsel before being posted to the Supreme Court as a Senior Assistant Registrar in 1994.  In 1995, Mrs Koh was appointed a District Judge in the Subordinate Courts and subsequently became the Principal District Judge, Family and Juvenile Justice Division until December 2003, when she was appointed Registrar of the Supreme Court.

On 11 April 2008, Mrs Koh was appointed Solicitor-General.
